Hoopfest 2010 Langley Event Centre

Call from a friend at Baden to get a picture of an MVP at a Basketball tournment led me to meeting Steve Lee his wife and team of champions from “CentreCourt” holding Hoopfest at the LEC.  Six years running this tournament brings out some impressive local talent that either went to high school in the area or are currently playing for one of the local universities.  There were those that had played in Europe and some in the IBL with our local BC Titans.  These weren’t pick up games.

Games were not only entertaining but many had the feel of a final unto itself.   These guys came to play and to win.

Met a player….Joey Haywood…”King Handle” to many…one word…Impressive

Nice to see many familiar faces still playing the game  – Jeremy, Emerson, Kyle, Alex, Aman, Steve, Richard and Matt

Congratulations to Jacob Doerksen on being named the MVP of the tournament.  Even after losing (and finding) half a tooth his play helped lead his team “The School” to this year’s championship. I’m looking forward to watch him play at Trinity Western University this season along with a very talented TWU team.

Always an honor to watch and photograph the game of basketball.

The Right Choice

Oakland A’s number one draft Michael Choice, the 10th overall pick is in Vancouver with the minor league “Canadians” for the remainder of the season…maybe

A three game homestand with the Aquasox from Everett, WA.  My good friend Rob Fai the radio announcer for the Canadians and Assistant General Manager  for the team allows me to shot from anywhere in the park…my favorite spot is from the roof above home plate.

Michael is a treat to watch…from center field defensively to swinging a big bat at home plate…watch for this guy in an A’s uniform

Practice makes Perfect

We’re off to a slow start with our CFL Lions this year but I still feel they have the potential and talent to go to this year’s Grey Cup in Edmonton.  I’m at practice almost everyday and everyday I capture a different aspect of practice.  I never get tired of being there and enjoy sharing thoughts both about football and life with Wally Buono.  The winningest coach in CFL history and there he is fielding questions from the guy with the camera (who loves football I might add)

DZ’s day at the Zoo

The Vancouver zoo is about 45 minutes from home.  I keep a current season’s pass and whenever I find some free time I head to the zoo.  Besides the great walk around the zoo I get to check on the eagles and their new habitat.  I love wildlife…especially the ones that don’t want to eat me.

Chef Mike marries Beth

Small family wedding at a nice spot by the ocean in Nanaimo…Mike and Beth were a blast to work with before the wedding at the Gardens in Vancouver to being honored to capture their day in Nanaimo.

Wedding Day for #19

Paris Jackson..number 19 of the BC Lions…great receiver, great friend…honored to be his wedding photographer.  Long day of nothing but great times…Lots of shots from getting ready in the morning to the ceremony and the party with 600 guests in downtown Vancouver.

All the best to Paris and Suzy!

Corbert comes to Vancouver

Winter Olympics 2010 and guess who is coming to town…no not Santa…rather the leader of the free world and Cobert Nation….Stephen….So I decided to take the skytrain downtown to see his live broadcast outside of Science world…When I arrived I realized how far the nation covers as he had over 4000 loyal followers day one and close to 6000 on day two of filming his show live from the Vancovuer Olympics…There’s a story of how I made it to the front of the stage…bottom line I got some great shots and a nice thank you card from Stephen once he received the prints that we had sent to him in New York.

The Eagles have landed

The best part of the cold, wet, snowy season in British Columbia are the Eagles that find their way up for the winter.  Across the river from my office I have spotted two new tennants.  I’m sure it’s due to the fish packing companies that discard the leftovers that come from their filleting machines into the river.  There are always a flock of seagulls (what a name for a band) that hover over the plant and occassionally my new friends fly into town for a bite or two.   I keep a camera in the car and whenever I see them I stop what I’m doing to get my camera and hike across the road to see if I can catch them for their brief visits.  Here are a couple of shots from the past couple of weeks.  Magnificient creatures of the sky.

Lizzy and Kent

Beautiful Weather (but cold)…beautiful surroundings and a beautiful couple.  I’ve known Kent’s family for over 10 years.  Roy and I have covered everyting from legal opinions to church, politics and golf and man’s search for happiness (besides the perfect round)….What we share in comoon is the belief in families are forever…It was evident at the wedding and throughout the day…I always enjoy to see a couple excited about the future and what it has in store for them.  I’m working on the photos as we speack but here are a few that should be ready for the reception in Coquitlam after Christmas.

Rodney Lee the Red Tailed Hawk

Remember that cartoon where the little “chickenhawk” went head to head with Foghorn Leghorn…if not google it go to you tube an d watch a few episodes….Upon maturity the chickenhawk grows into “what is a red tailed hawk ” (sounds like jeopardy)…the redtailed hawk took new meaning in our family’s lives when one was spotted circling around my dad’s burial at Ft Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas.   And since that day my brother Lee was constantly seeing them around Houston, Texas and it was then that the red tailed hawk took on a new meaning for Lee.

So when he came up to Canada for a visit a while back I got Gary at Vanvouer Zoo to get Lee a private backstage pass with Rodney the red tailed hawk.  Here’s my little brother and the Chickenhawk.
