Orange Helmet Awards – Herschel Walker

Being a Cowboys fan all my life and being involved with the BC Lions of the CFL came together for the 2012 Orange Helment Awards. Great event for a great cause and it was great to see alot of the players back in town since winning the Grey Cup back in November. This year’s event was made even more special when I learned that Herschel Walker was coming to town as the guest speaker. I was asked to design a table gift for all the guests (925) and to create one of my photoart images of Herschel’s football career that was to be given to Herschel as a gift and a copy to be auctioned off at the end of the night. The print along with three replica signed helmets was the last auction item of the night and went for $16,000. Besides the copy for Herschel and for the auction I got to have Herschel sign one for me which was a highlight I’ll treasure for a long time.

Lacrosse…if you’ve never been to a game you need to go…if you think your sport is tough try playing this one. On your feet..constant running and constant pounding with a stick from a guy guarding you…These are the Western Canadian finals the winner to go onto the Mann Cup.

Tough start to the season but the vision and the drive are there. Our BC Lions have been there to the final end for both games this season. I still feel the focus and the drive are visible in the hearts of these players and coaches. Looking forward to this weeks road trip to Edmonton. Jimmer

Here I am driving in Vancouver listening to my sports radio 1040 and hear BMac talk about Jimmer Fredette…”there isn’t a shot Jimmer doesn’t like” was how he led his discussion about a guard for the number 3 ranked BYU Cougars.

I was lucky to get to watch him play as my brother in law Steve was able to get some court side seats and took me to a game. “Watch 32″, he said. And I wasn’t disappointed. So flash forward and hearing what Jimmer has accomplished and how he could lead the Cougars to a national title brought back memories from that game. Here is someting I created of Jimmer

Roger Hodgson – Child of Vision

Never seemed to be in the right place at the right time when Supertramp was together and touring…always a big fan and collector of all of their albums/cds including the solo works of Roger Hodgson. I had this date on my calendar ever since the show was announced. What a privilege it was…what a show….the band was tight….Roger was on…the River Rock was packed and the journey was fantastic. And for the guy with the photo pass clinging to the front of the stage it was indescribable. After the show I was privleged to meet Roger and then off to the studio to start going through 1000 images to finds the ones to create a piece for Roger before his next performance at the Red Robinson. I ended up doing something for each band mate as well. I couldn’t stay for the second show as I was on my way to another night to remember….the Orange Helmet awards with the BC Lions. What a great weekend!

A few months back I was contacted by the BC Lions about creating a canvas PhotoArt print of the five quarterbacks that lead Lions’ teams of the past to Grey Cup victories. Joe Kapp, Roy Dewalt, Danny McMannus, Damon Allen and Dave Dickson.

I was thrilled at the opportunity. Even more thrilling was to have lunch with 5 QBs as they signed the 28×36 canvas piece that would ba auctioned off as the final auction at the awards. This was one of those special moments that created a special memory for me.

Sam and Luke

While my brother Lee was up visitviagrag with his kids at Christmas we had the opportunity to sneak away and head downtown to the Commodore Ballroom. I had gotten us a couple of tickets to the 2010 Blues for Christmas (25th anniversary show). Lots of great music from legends in the Vancouver area. My photo pass could only get me back stage so I stayed out front and did most of my shots from right in front of the stage. I had heard about a duo…brothers on quitars “Sam and Luke” and was quite keen on seeing them perform. Lee and I were both quite blown away. Pure energy…unbelievably talented guitar players with great vocals to add to that list of talent. Here are the two pieces that I created for the brothers and hope to present it to them upon their return from their tour in the states….

Port Moody Christmas Tournament

First year at this tournament. Since I’m working with a couple of schools that were at the tournament so I thought it would be a good opportunity to take some snaps and see some other high school talent. These were my picks for tournament all stars from Enver Creek, Port Moody, Queen Elizabeth, Windsor, West Vancouver, Riverside, Thomas Haney and Collingswood. The Enver Creek Cougars ended up winning the tournament with a great final game against the Port Moody Blues.

Second year for this tournament and my first tournament with High School Basketball in British Columbia…there are several teams/schools that i’m honored to work within creating PhotoArt of their grade 12/Senior athletes and some of them were at this year’s invitational. From this tournament I got to help select the tournament all stars and also create something special for the tournament MVP.
